Next year is Walt Disney Pictures' 100th anniversary, which you might not be aware of. Walt Disney and his brother Roy started their own business in 1923. The Disney brothers and their successors expanded their little studio into the largest media organization in Hollywood over the ensuing decades. Even before it acquired Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century Fox, Disney was a major studio. Because Pixar movies have done a better job than nearly anybody else at capturing the essence of old Disney, this list is a celebration of all things Disney and Pixar.

 Toy Story

It's important to watch Toy Story again since Lightyear, the first Pixar movie will be released in theatres this summer. For its time, this was the first CGI-animated film, and it was magnificent. Even decades later, the story still stands up quite well. Woody, Andy Davis' favorite toy, is portrayed in the movie by Tom Hanks (John Morris). The appearance of Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), a sci-fi hero who is unaware that he is an action figure, puts Woody's status in jeopardy. Woody puts Buzz and himself in various risky situations to get rid of his competitor. Woody and Buzz will have to cooperate to go home.

 Black Beauty

Kate Winslet plays the inner voice of the wild mustang in the Disney+ adaption of Anna Sewell's Black Beauty, who refuses to be tamed despite being kidnapped by mankind. Nevertheless, Beauty connects with Jo Green (Mackenzie Foy), a little orphan under her uncle John Manly's care (Iain Glen). Jo and John treat Beauty properly, but because of their bleak financial outlook, John is forced to sell Beauty to a new owner. Jo is determined to track down and rescue Beauty, despite the horse having to deal with some pretty awful owners, no matter how long it takes.

101 Dalmatians

One of the final Disney animated films created while Walt Disney was still alive was 101 Dalmatians. Pongo (Rod Taylor), Perdita (Lisa Daniels, and Cate Bauer), and their respective owners, Roger (Ben Wright) and Anita (Lisa Davis), are two adult Dalmatians who are the subject of the story. Anita's "friend," Cruella de Vil (Betty Lou Gerson), employs thieves to steal the puppies because she wants their fur for herself. Pongo and Perdita can reconnect with their puppies with the aid of some animal pals, only to discover Cruella has also abducted 84 orphaned Dalmatian pups. Pongo and Perdita decide to bring the others into the family. But when Cruella herself goes hunting, the trip home turns into a very dangerous situation.

The Hunchback Of Notre Dame

Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame was adapted by Disney with several liberties, yet it remains one of the darkest animated movies the company has ever made. Tony Jay's portrayal of Judge Claude Frollo sings about his lustful desire for Esmeralda (Demi Moore)! However, the soundtrack and images are stunning, and Quasimodo (Tom Hulce), a young man who is disfigured but who has a passionate heart even though his true love doesn't reciprocate his feelings, is shown in an affecting way. This is the kind of grandiose musical epic that isn't often produced nowadays, and it has earned a spot among Disney's best movies.

 Lilo And Stitch

Do you understand what an ohana is? According to Lilo & Stitch, it's the Hawaiian word for family and indicates that no one in the family is ever forgotten or left behind. The rogue alien experiment Stitch (Chris Sanders), who is hiding out on Earth by posing as Lilo Pelekai's dog, is genuinely moved by this remark (Daveigh Chase). Stitch learns the value of family and that he can be more than a biological weapon of mass devastation while residing with Lilo and Nani (Tia Carrere), Lilo's older sister. Unfortunately, the Galactic Federation disagrees and sends agents to seize and obliterate Stitch.
